Brake disc fubar'd ?

Afternoon everyone,

Have noticed a clonking coming from the front end under braking (not the forks).

Anyway, gave the bike a treat today and changed plugs, oil and air filter. Checked out the front end and one of the discs is really loose and rattling around......sorry but I don't know the proper terms for the parts involved, but the actual disc is attached to the spidery bid (sorry) that attaches to the hub via some kind of hollow short tubes (??!!). Behind these tubes there are some slim sort of shim washers that I assume keeps the disc nice and tight on the discs.....anyway....looks like these 'shims' have corroded away and some are missing, some in a bad state.

Are these parts serviceable.....is this normal wear ? Or is the disc in need of replacement....if so, anyone got a cheap one ?;)

Thanks everyone and apologies for the terminology used !!

I've used some very rattly discs, and I'm still alive. Not that it's a good idea.

I'd say replace the disc, then think about getting the rattly one sent off to somewhere to see if it's salvageable.

I've been told that you can't get the rivets for suzuki oem discs? Is that true?

Back and forth rotation movement is bad, in and out movement is okay but if it is really loose then get it replaced or repaired.

Yes, think it is Talon that sell them.

i had this knocking under braking / slow speed recently aswell. thought it might be the calipers, thought it might be the discs either loose or warped, turned out to be the front wheel bearings  oh, and the wheel didnt give much movement contrary to well quoted common symptom of bad bearings

Rivets !! Thats the word.....does anyone have any idea whether the replacement rivets are expensive and also whether it is an expensive job for a mechanic to do ? Think my mechanical input would end with the removal of the disc ;) Me and nuts and bolts don't get along well........was just considering how well the servicing was going earlier when I sheared the radiator bolt (to get to front plug) !!

Might just be cheaper to get a second hand disc ?

Thanks for the replies everyone.
