Re: referances

First off: what reference is it? Is it for a job or a character reference (usually requested when renting property).

If its for a job, you can tailor the reference to "tick all the boxes"

it doesnt have to be very long. You just need to say that in X amount of time you've known him hes been X, Y, Z. If you were to re-employ him you would...that sort of thing.

Re: referances

I have given employers references for a number of staff. against co rules as only HR are allowed to do them.

Joe Bloggs was employed from x to y and left of their own volition. During this period they held the roles of a,b,c.

They are so scared of saying something that is untrue, they give out sod all information to enable somebody to get a job. Yet know that they would not consider somebody if they were recruiting based on so little information.

Worse is with current employees. why do companies ask you for a reference from your current employer. Nothing like saying I am looking and have no loyalty. Straight to the top of the topping list. So do you then give a glowing reference to driftwood in the hope that somebody will snatch them away, or a crap reference for your best staff because you don't want to loose them?

Be honest, tell them you met in the drug rehab centre at the nick you were banged up in together 6 months ago and he's the best lover you've ever had.

MOD you say? Tell them he's always had a healthy interest in guns and wearing cammo gear, and that he's got a wicked collection of 'Guns and Ammo' magazine under his bed alongside his sawn off shotguns.

He'll walk the interviews, believe me.

That and the fact that he's very good at leaving Top Secret things on trains and laptops on car seats so they can be nicked.
Ideal candidate me thinks ;)
