Is it the plastic fastener that goes under the rear end of the SV (they attach the under bit to the shiney side panel bit that the seat sits on...technical terminology never was my strong point)

No, its a fastener that they use to hold the partitions between our desks onto the mount points.

Its made of metal and its basically an allen-bolt that goes into a sleeve on another allen-headed piece.

You can get similar at B&Q, used to assemble flat packed furniture.

Indeed, they're normally used to screw kitchen cabinets to each other
