Another gloves thread

So, summer gloves, good time of year to buy some. Have seen and tried on a number of different gloves; Alpinestars Sp-1 (old version for only £50 and later ones for around £80), Alpinestars GP Pro (around £120), a couple of pairs of Arlen Ness onesat around £80, and Hein Gericke's Carbon Sport or whatever they are called, also for £80.

I've also seen these BKS ones http://www.bksclothing.com/collectio...sp?article=142 for £100. Has anyone any views on them, as unlike all the others, I can't find many reviews of them in day to day use.

Anything else to consider? I want to try gloves on, so have to be able to source them locally, even if buying online.

I've got a pair of Alpinestar GP Pro's, really really really comfortable. I'd definately recommend them.

But try a pair on first rather than buying blind online as the A* sizes are strange and you might need a bigger glove than you think you do.

Yep one thumb up for GP Pros. Only one thumb mind, as my second thumb has frostbite... Don't try to wear them during winter :D

That's why I want to try them, I have small hands and very slim wrists. I liked the A* SP-1 that I tried, and they seem good value for £50, even if they are "last years" model. Just wondered what else was out there to try, as the BKS look to be well designed.

Wait until the London Bike Show at Exel and get yourself what are probably the best summer gloves on the market - Held Phantoms. GLF Accesories will have a stand there selling nothing but Held gloves. They aren't cheap but Held are the best gloves I have ever owned

BKS were bought out by Frank Thomas, and anyone who knows me will know I have nothing but contempt for their products and for them as a company. I certainly wouldn't pay 100 quid for a pair of Frank Thomas gloves, and that's all these will be with BKS badges sewn on.

BKS used to make top quality leathers and stuff, but it's made in the far east now at the same factories FT use, all they do is brand it with a once respected name.

It's a shame to see a great name like BKS being defiled by the likes of Frank Thomas.

Would be a good idea, except it would cost a fortune to get there just for a pair of gloves given I live in West Yorkshire. Is he likely to head to the Manchester Show in January or is it too far for them to bother? At this moment in time, I'm erring towards the £50 Alpinestars, they seem a decent glove for the price and I'm not exactly fussed about them not being the latest colour scheme.

Out of interest Lozzo, are your views based on recent dealings with FT or those of past times? I'm not doubting your knowledge, just interested in why you dislike them so much!
