Hello from a newbie!!!!!!

Hi, I'm Lou M's daughter and I'm getting my first bike in March. So excited!!
Met a few of you at the bike show on Saturday.
Thought I'd join to get a few tips.

I'm thinking of getting a vespa 50cc, then a Varadero 125cc then looking for an SV after that because I liked my mum's.

Personally, I'd avoid anything less than 125cc's. Firstly, what's the point in being limited to 30mph everywhere, when the CBT will allow you to get up to 70mph? Granted the extra power means you run the risk of getting points for speeding etc, but it also gives you a chance of getting out of a tricky situation using a little power.

More importantly IMO, being stuck at 30mph isn't very safe. Even cities have large areas that are 40mph limits. Countless times I've seen scooter riders in the gutters just to allow traffic to overtake, and I truly feel sorry for them.

As for the Varadero 125, I considered it originally. But then I questioned why I wanted to spend a few grand on a 125cc engine with the weight of a bigger bike. From many conversations I've had, I made the right choice in avoiding it. Apparently it's a very sluggish beast. Badger is the person to talk to about the Vara's, as I know he had one.

Whatever path you choose, we won't point & laugh (much ;) ). At least you'll be cutting your teeth gradually & not just doing DAS & jumping on to a super sports spec bike.

greetings eviem. for a first time bike i'd be tempted to opt for a scooter, a little road experience never hurt anybody. but its got to be a lambretta.

Just because one person wouldn't attempt them on a bigger bike, doesn't mean someone else wouldn't.

Also, I didn't say anything against scooters themselves, I just wouldn't be happy with my kids riding around on a 50cc engine. A 125cc scooter is IMO much more safe, when ridden by a rider with a sensible head.

NB, No judgement on the M family there, just that I don't consider them powerful enough to be safe on the roads of modern Britain.

You guys could be missing something..
Depending on her age, it restricts what she can get?
You're profile says still at school, how old are you then?
If you're 17 or older, go for a 125 at least, 50's dont have much puff about them..
Still i came from a RS50 to a SV650..
But the decision is all yours, you'll enjoy whatever you get :)
