Scorpion Street Extreme and also sump plug hell
Well, i finally took ownership of my Scorpion street extreme this week after 3 weeks of waiting, so today was fitting day as it wasn't raining too badly.
I had also decided that id treat the bike to some new oil and some new plugs too and chose to do the oil first as it was the easier of the jobs. Stuck in the engine flush and ran it for the necessary time, and then got the drain bowl ready, only for the drain plug to not want to come out once loosened. Seems someone has over tightened it, stripped the threads and then managed to bodge it back on somehow. grr. tada - see the threads that came out with it: http://cyculpin.com/gallery2/images/...0/img_0163.jpg if anyone knows of a mobile repair service in Norwich that does helicoils please drop me a line as im bikeless until this is fixed! i decided to fit the exhaust even though i couldnt actually turn it on afterwards and hear it roar! Talk about an anti-climax! before: http://cyculpin.com/gallery2/images/...0/img_0165.jpg after cut (nb: Tie-wraps were used to hold up footpeg until it got in the way of the cut and was removed): http://cyculpin.com/gallery2/images/...0/img_0174.jpg http://cyculpin.com/gallery2/images/...0/img_0175.jpg comparison of can sizes (this makes me grin :) ) http://cyculpin.com/gallery2/images/...0/img_0176.jpg and after: http://cyculpin.com/gallery2/images/...0/img_0177.jpg much better i think! if only i could start it... im pretty angry about the sump plug. hopefully it wont cost me too much to get fixed. im expecting about a £30 hit. lets hope its not much more! |
Re: Scorpion Street Extreme and also sump plug hell

Looks great, might get one for my curvy. Pity about the stripped thread. Why o why must people overtighten things like this.

Re: Scorpion Street Extreme and also sump plug hell
Better to have done it before you started the engine, comes off easier before heat. A rub with a soft cloth and petrol/WD40 will lift the remaining bits of stickiness.

My scorpion can doesn't have a badge and looks better for it I'd say. I'm just about to fit a high level link pipe, so one of these Street Extreme jobbies would look ace. just need the funds! As for using you arm as a torque wrench, yes I've had plenty of experience of others ham fisted wrenching too :smt072 |
