Raising the front - am I killing my bike?
So I have been using an Abba stand for a while but have never needed to raise the front wheel off the tarmac until today. Now I have not forked out for the extra piece to the abba stand that lifts the front but am hoping that my make shift solution isnt damaging my bike.
I have basically used a bit of carpet and a car jack to lift the front wheel up. Take a look at the pictures and let me know whether I am doing something stupid here. Thanks, Jon http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/6...7967558xu5.jpg http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/6...7007666jd1.jpg http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/909...7034979tr3.jpg |

Looks okay to me. I would be happy with that.

Looks like you're supporting it by the exhaust downpipes, in which case theres a slight chance you'll bend them a bit. Is there not a bit of engine lump you can get at to support it on? For a mo I thought it was on the fairing!

Re: Raising the front - am I killing my bike?
Ha, i got very scared it was on the fairing too, so long as the jack it supporting something solid i see no reason why this isnt a perfectly satisfactory solution, i used to use a car jack and some foam on one of the cross members on my old drag bike frames to lift the front up, worked like a charm.
Nicley colour matched equipment for the bike as well! |
Re: Raising the front - am I killing my bike?
Likewise thought the fairing was somehow supporting that lol.
Cant see a problem myself....I want an abba stand : ( |
Re: Raising the front - am I killing my bike?
Look at the state of those pipes already!
Honda aren't STILL making downpipes out of stilton, are they? |

Re: Raising the front - am I killing my bike?
That should be fine, just dont push down on the front or wobble the bike as it may fall off the jack.

Re: Raising the front - am I killing my bike?
I have a piece of 2x2 block of wood cut to length which I use on the engine block. A touch more stable than the jack I think.
