Some kind of running light.
I want to wire up a sidelight (I don't have one at the moment), but I want to have one that's of some use. I'm not sure of the legality of this- i was thinking of some kind of small light running a decent halogen bulb (Osram or something similar)..
Is there anything stopping me running such a powerful sidelight? I've had a brief look for MOT guidelines, but didn't find anything pertaining to the power of the light. I'd like to use a projector light but can't find one... The reason I want a decent light is it's less noticeable than a 7 inch round headlight with a HID kit fitted when running around at dusk :D |
Re: Some kind of running light.
Legality, dunno.
However you will need a relay I reckon, the signal fuse and associated wiring might not be too happy about running a full bulb. What about another HID? :-P |
Re: Some kind of running light.
Nowhere to put the ballast :p
I'm having the same problem as before- I can't find anything I like, and so far haven't come across any projector lights I could use. Good point about the relay, I hadn't thought of that, having never used one before :p |
Re: Some kind of running light.
So you want a powerful HID so you can see where you're going, but you want to be able to flick to a normal light when mr plod appears?
Why not got something like this and have a switched HID just on one side http://www.streetfightersinc.com/Hes...izonaBlack.jpg |
Re: Some kind of running light.
You won't fit a HID ballast in one of those lamps, the solenoid is too big out of the back of it. I tried, you'd have to cut most of the back away.

Re: Some kind of running light.
Ahh I see. How big is the ballast? There is some room under the tank by the snorkel on mine

Re: Some kind of running light.
Not the ballast sorry, I mean the solenoid which controls the shield for dip/main beam. Ballast is about the size of a fag packet and can be tucked somewhere convenient.

Re: Some kind of running light.
Might be a daft question, but does the solenoid have to be in the headlight?

Re: Some kind of running light.
Yes, it physically moves a shield around the xenon capsule to alter the light pattern, so it needs to sit behind the light. It's a cylinder about an inch and a half long. Sticks out much further than the connector on the back of a normal H4 bulb.

Re: Some kind of running light.
Ok. What if you just get that headlight I posted then chop it in half and mount it under your 7 inch light:p
