When do different parts of the day start??

random one really.. but i work in a cab office and sometimes, i will say good afternoon and people say to me "its evening now mate" and so on...
I class morning as 00.00-11.59
afternoon 12.00 - 18.00
evening 18.00 - 21.00
night 21.00-23.59

obviously there are exceptions, when you talk about something that happened at 2am its still "last night"
even after 21.00 i still say good evening
and you could say night lasts from 18.00 till 06.00

the more i think about it, the more confusing and grey-areaD it seems

all this in the interest of me staying as professional at work as possible

I pretty much agree with what you said you class it as to be honest. :)

Good Morning to you :p

I think that there should be a new classification for the 00:00-0600 time. Its not really morning but it is a new day but its also nighttime as well, and you get Night workers that would work until 6am.

i think it could end up on a weekday/weekend thing... e.g. on a saturday night, 0200 is a good evening call... but on a weekday e.g. wednesday, its good morning.

morning could be at 0300.

good morning to you all!
