Re: john o groats to lands end

we did john o'groats to landsend in a day for charity on june 21st (the longest day) we chose this day as it would be warmer, more light and as it was a weekend it would be quieter on the roads. john o'groats is fairly ....ummm.... desolate? it reminded my of a windswept falklands!!!!:D:D

it took me 13 and a half hours leaving at 0415hrs on a 1050 tiger, the first 250 miles(ish) were absolutely freezing, wearing fully lined textiles and a fleece!!!!!!!! i was shaking like a dog when i stopped for a coffee which i could barely hold. fuel stations being open was a problem in scotland - try and plan every fuel stop
From birmingham down to landsend it ****ed down with rain non stop. the plod in scotland like unmarmarked cars and speed enforcment - 4 guys got nicked for speeding in scotland! - out of 45 of us, no one was nicked in England.

if you are planning in doing it in a day try and get the bulk of the journey done straight away with very short breaks. if you are doing it over a few days then take your time coming out of scotland, the scenery is stunning and I have to say the people we dealt with were lovely. DO NOT stay at the landsend hotel as its an overpriced ****hole with poor service.

Me and a mate are considering doing it on C90's or similar hacks... take a good few days over it and do it on B-roads.
