caliper rebuild help????

hi there, my front and rear calipers are in need of a re-build as they are dragging a fair bit, ive ordered the re-build kits and was wondering if anyone local would be willing to help with it as ive never done one before! obviously i would travel to you and beer/wine would be provided!! I would really appreciate this so i dont mess it up!!

Many thanks
Ash

I've just done mine as I went on holiday without washing off the salt.
In my humble opinion the only part required is red rubber grease.
1. take calipers off leaving lines attached
2. take out brake pads
3. pump out one piston at a time w/out letting it fall out! & clean & push back in & do the next one

Where are you? I don't mind coming round to start you off?

Wow, I gave out that exact advice just the other day ;).

Ash- if you've already ordered the seal kit then I would ignore Stu and do a full rebuild

The trick is getting them getting them apart with out trashing the pistons, unless of course you've ordered new ones of them as well?

thought you could just pump them out with the brake handle?

YES, but not sure you put the new seals in from that side or you have to split the calipers and put them in from the other side. You'll need to ask my sidekick ;)

I thought the SV calipers are single sided (with slider) so there isn't anything to split. Even if not, it's a very rare requirement to split calipers. The seals will go in through the piston hole easily enough. I've done Yamaha 2 and 4 pot opposed piston calipers like this without problems so the SV single side twin pots should be straightforward.

When you lift out the old seals, make sure you thoroughly clean out the seal grooves or any microscopic muck trapped in there will accelerate the deterioration of the of the new seals, sort of defeating the object.

ok well the pictures in the haynes manuals don't seem to show any way of splitting them, look to be one unit as you think ruffy, i will give this a bash myself then if it goes wrong, looks like ill be traveling to someone for some help!!!
