Birmingham nights out?

I have a friend who works away a lot and hes off to B'ham area for a while. He wants to know if theres any decent rock type clubs in that area.
Thought I'd ask the org as you always give an answer.
Thats it really over to you lot:)

I've been there a few times but never noticed anywhere which plays rock music specifically. I quite liked Flares when I was up there though...but definitely not rock music! (60's & 70's classics! :))

Will probably be somewhere along Broad Street which will suit him though.

Not many rock clubs in Brum, bar academy/academy 2 is alwaays good though. It's on Dale End in the city centre.

Hi dizzy. As above, the academy is a live rock & club night venue. Scruffy Murphys is the rock pub around the corner. Club listings below might be of help:

Thanks guys, you've been most helpful. Cheers DMC, have sent him the link, and told him about the pub. Seems if hes going to be there for a while he may as well keep it in mind if hes out about town.

no good having a club to go to if theres no pub before hand to get you in the mood for a good night;-)

Costermongers in the city centre.

A proper rock pub.

Be warned toilets have a habit of flooding after 9pm on Saturdays.
