London Bike Show
Hi Folks.
I'm going to the show and I basically need a new, more comfortable, quieter helmet. Can anyone reccomend any good brands/models? I'm looking at arai and shoei. I already have a shark S800. I want one with sun visor. Also, is the bike show a good place to get a bargain? I'm basically looking for a bargain too. If so, whens best to go, first/last day??? Never been to a bike show before, oh, and I don't care if its an old model. Only if it fits, has a sun visor option and is a good deal. Matt |

Re: London Bike Show
For a quiet helmet look for a wrap around visor, and aerodynamic vents. I currently have an Arai Astro J which is fiarly noisy, but used to have a Shoei XR800 & 1000 both were a lot quieter, due to thier design.
More importantly is make sure it fits you properly. The shuberg(sp?) is meant o be very quiet and has a sun visor and the Roof R10 (i think) is also very quiet. As for bargins. I have been to shows on most days, and this last day myth, is just that. Go with CASH and im sure you can always squeeze a little more from them, also i find that lids are fairly cheap and its where i always get mine. Sometime be prepared to get last years model/colour. |
Re: London Bike Show
For a quiet helmet, wear earplugs. End of.

Re: London Bike Show
Yes.Helmets are to protect heads from impacts not ears from noise.Wear earplugs to do that.
As for the show I wouldnt bother to look for bargains there, but try the specialist lid dealers like Helmet city. They are based in Surrey and often have good reductions on last years models. |

Re: London Bike Show
Thanks guys. I'm a sound engineer so I know a fair amount about earplugs and protecting hearing, I always wear plugs when riding.
Well I'll give the suggestions a look, I heard ROOF brands are quiet. And of course, I know helmets are to protect from impacts not noise. I am aware some helmet designs are quieter than others and reduce wind noise. |
Re: London Bike Show
Quieter, yeah, but all things are relative. You're never going to find a really quiet helmet.

Re: London Bike Show
My Arai Viper is very noisy as it has ear cut-outs. Wouldn't recommend it as a quiet helmet but I always wear ear plugs.
Do you really want a pull down sun visor? Pinlock inserts are brilliant if you don't want to be faffing about with changing visors. |
Re: London Bike Show
I just use a dark visor when it's sunny and a clear one (with pinlock) when it's not. Never had a problem.
