Cheaper in the winter?
 

I was supposed to be buying an sv some time now but because of work things I've had to put it on hold for a couple of months. Everyone I've spoken to keeps telling me that bikes are cheaper in the winter and I should get one now anyway, but as I only started to pay attention to bikes in november time I have no idea if this is true. How much extra are we talking the price going up and when does it start happening? I know this isnt an exact science but I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.

when the road's dry up bike's get more expensive due to the the hibernating fair weather rider's waking up and wanting a bike spring summer time.

I would say with the way things are at the moment, You might as well wait. The prices arent going to go up because there are going to be people out there who are forced to sell, pushing prices down.

Can't understand it myself - something is worth whatever someone wants to pay and whatever someone wants to sell it for.
Some people sell their bikes in the winter and because there are supposedly less buyers and more bikes for sale, they drop the price accordingly - then in the better weather, less people sell their bikes and so the price goes up as less become available.

Personally,
I think it's a load of ******** - if I see something I want to buy and I think the price is reasonable, I would pay the same in the winter than in the summer - what's the weather got to do with it ?

Just my opinion - but then, I'm always happy pay a bit more for something thats a bit better - something you want to buy now but don't because you think it should be cheaper because it's winter might not even be available when the weather gets better, chance gone - you'll be kicking yourself.

If you find something you want now and you'd be prepared to pay that in the summer, buy it now then when summer comes, you'll have what you want at a price you would have been happy to pay anyway - simple.

Traditionally, bikes are cheaper in the colder months due to supply vs demand. Not that many people wan't to buy bikes in winter, compared with say, spring.

At the moment though, with the credit crunch/recession, some dealerships are finding things hard, and some are happier to cut back on profits to make a sale.

As an example of the credit crunch effect, I saw a Ford Focus 1.9TDi in a car dealership a few months back, for £2599. I went to the dealership today, and it's at £1995. £600 saved instantly, just by waiting for the right time. Tomorrow I'm going to go in & try swipe a couple of extra hundred off the price. If I can't do that, and the dealer won't give me extras that cost him pittance, I'll walk.

I'll pay £1695 for the car (subtracting extras from the window price if I have to), and not a penny more. Spokey has a point. You pay what you think something is worth.

You won't find much difference to be honest. If there was then everybody would buy in winter and sell in summer. The world isn't that easy to make money out of I'm afraid ;)

It is almost like the guy who waits 12 months to buy the next great thing... only to find that there is something greater coming... I say just but the thing and enjoy it NOW!
