Pop, bang, grumble, stall

My bike is not happy. It is running very rough at low revs, making some loud pops and bangs (admittedly there is no baffle in my fuel exhaust). It often cuts out at idle too.
It seems to run reasonably well at higher revs (6k +).
Any suggestions as to what the problem could be?
It's a 2002 curvy

+1. Sounds like too much fuel to me.

Thanks for the replies. Seems a unanimous diagnosis. I'll look to getting it sorted!

I agree. But, if it doesn't do it all the time then at this time of year it could also be carb icing- that's most pronounced at low revs and often causes stalling as the revs drop.

SOmething I was going to ask - does it occur only soon after start up, while the engine is warming up, or is it constant i.e. if it was carb icing, which is most prominent when the bike is "cold", then your bike would run fine after its warmed up (say, 30 minutes to be definatly sure!)

Yup. As in bad fuelling.

I'd check the carb balance afterwards too whilst working on it.

Mine popped and gurgled a bit on the roll off before fitting new Iridium plugs and shes sweet as a nut now. Is it a recent development or has it got progressivly worse over time?
