Panel repair
Might be on here some where but couldnt find any thing,
i came off little while ago and i didnt crack the fairing but did put some dep scratches in them. i want to paint it again once the summer eventualy comes. so can i use normal filler ? (i thought this might just crack) or is there some sort of special plastic filler? http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/9493/dscf0047sh2.jpg http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/d...pg/1/w1280.png if i was to rub back to scratches then i think it might alter the shape to much, do you think rub down as much as possible then hope primer and paint will fill the rest is anoter possible solution? |
Re: Pannel repair
I used isopon on mine, it won't crack unless you flex the plastic massively, ie you're crashing and it's on the tarmac, so it doesn't really matter at all- by the time you crack it the panel will be dinged up anyway. I use Isopon in particular because it's easy to find, and because the smell reminds me of my grandad's garage when I was a kid. As good a reason as any! Those do look fairly deep.
It's worth looking around for used panels btw, they can work out cheaper than fixing and painting. |
Re: Pannel repair
for scratches look for something called knifing putty, basically the same stuff but finer, never try to fill scratches with paint as the thicker paint (as in the scratch) will sink when dry.
when doing it over fill and sand back to profile, make sure you use a plastic primer as you've gone threw the paint. Cheers Mark. |
