Decent Top Box ?

I've been lurking in these forums since I bought my naked k3 SV650 a few weeks ago.. Ive already acted on advice from here and very happy with the results had a bit of a search for top boxes but could only find bits and bobs...

Right looking for either an inexpensive set of hard panniers (with fittings) or an inexpensive top box (not a pillion seat one)and fitting set for my SV - preferably stuff that doesnt make my pretty look awful.

What can you reccomend??

Rob

only one answer then, get a tank bag and throw overs etc. You will never find such a thing as a top box that doesn't ruin the look of a bike.

+1  Just ask Alpinestarhero

(Although he can probably help you if your heart is set on a topbox :p)

Because it's a naked bike you'll have this huge thing on the back when the rest of the bike is kinda slimline. I'd go with Tim and get a tank bag. I asked about a top box when i bought it and the guy just laughed at me.
Northwind had one in last years scottish meet, whatever it's called, according to the pics anyway, he might have info.

But if you do want a top box just do an ebay search - you can go cheap and get some reasonable stuff or spend on a second hand Givi item which will be far superior. I have a 52 litre Givi top box and it is the most useful thing I've ever bought for the bike. Does it look stupid - well yes, but then i think walking round carrying a helmet in bike gear during summer is also a pain. you can always just unclip it when no needed.

EDIT - you can get some cheap universal fitting kits but I'd still be tempted to go with a bespoke one. There aren't many about second hand for the SV unfortunatly as its not a popular option. Soft luggage will be much cheaper, but for about £150 you can get a box with the correct fitting kit...

For quality you'll not go far wrong with Givi. They do two ranges, "monokey" for bigger bikes and "monolock" for smaller scooters etc. I use a smaller E35 and a biggggggger E52 Maxia topbox as needed.

Hard luggage does have real advantages over soft (I've a BMW with Krauser stuff and a Deauville with integral panniers), but have to say the SV probably isn't ideally suited to hard panniers, but you do see plenty of VFR's etc with them so it's perfectly doable. I use soft luggage on my SVS when I do need something for the weekend. ;)

Not cheap, but deffo better than Givi arms!

You can fit a monolock/key plate to it and the boxes just clip on/off.

You could get one of these from Suzuki, they cost £56 and accept the official Suzuki top box (which is a rebadged Givi).

But that fits on instead of the pillion seat which he says he didn't want.
