'energy saving' light bulbs

Was taught NEVER to use fluorescent lights near workshop macinery since moving tools etc. may appear stationary when they are not!
Do so-called 'energy saving' light bulbs have the same effect?
If so, they aint very safe!

Well they are Compact Fluorescent Tubes so yes.
But the chances of the flicker exactly matching the rpm of the tool must be so remote for any type of bulb....:???:

Anyway we're all be on LEDs in 5 yrs time. New manufacture method bringing the costs down announced today

Never heard of that. There were loads of fluorescent lights over the workshop machinery at my old job

I'm sure the control gear in fluorescents used in machinery shops is of a type which avoids the "strobe" issue, can't remember the details, not really my field. Stuff here

Then many machines had their own Anglepoise - type lamp to provide steady light.
