Oil level and oil type.
Hi guy's - how do you know when to top up the oil and what type should I use because I've heard that standard 10/40 motor oil is no good?
(I have tried the search facility but for some reason it wont come up with any results!) I've got an 08 pointy btw... D |
Re: Oil level and oil type...
Semi Synthetic 10W 40 is the main choice. I have heard of fully synthetic being used but most of the "well knowledgable blokes" say Semi Synthetic. Places like Hein Gericke do it cheap enough :)

Re: Oil level and oil type...
look in the spy glass when the bike is completely upright, not on a sidestand. When it cold or you've let it stand for a good while if you've been out on it. Theres two lines upper and lower...inbetween them is fine. Motorcycle oil of 10W40 semi or fully synthetic.

Re: Oil level and oil type...
Thanks guy's - I take it any brand of motorcycle 10/40 is ok or would you recomend any specific make - I'm fairly sure my local Suzuki dealer uses Rockoil...?
Thanks |

But if you want to search you could look for all posts by embee I just bought some 10/40 Semi tesco's cheapest :D I'll use that to top up - well it's not going to be in the bike for a full 4000 miles :smt102 (which is getting quite a bit in my ninja) & I'll use half decent 10/40 Semi for oil changes. Think I have Mobil in the garage. |
Re: Oil level and oil type...

So something like this would be fine for topping up then:
