Words of wisdom from a cyclist.......

Right - let me explain the road layout.......

On the otherside of the road from where I work they are building a new office building.

This has led them to close half the road and erect Road Closed signs just the other side of a zebra crossing.

There is a gap, oh about the width of a cyclist between the Diversion and Road Closed signs.

This morning, while crossing the zebra crossing I noticed a cyclist lining up to come through between the signs and enter the closed road.

So I stopped and the conversation went a bit like.

"Where you going? Roads Closed"

"Not to bike is isnt"

"No, its closed to vehicles, you're a vehicle"

"F*&*K Off" then getting off his bike and pushing it down the road on the pavement.

Obviously I need to go read my Highway Code......

And here we go onto the argument, should bicycles be allowed on the pavement!

Agree with Thingus, I love cycling, I just think alot of cyclist are ignorant tw*ts, but then you could say that about alot of people in society in general.

I think the attitude of cyclists is going to get worse as more of them take to the road as opposed to runing a 2nd car or using public transport.

in his defence he was pushing his bike down the pavement.

It was the bit about him cycling the down a closed road which was now single lane with him going against the flow that I couldn't understand.

Fizz, I agree that there are some good cyclists and bad ones - but all I ever see is the bad ones - and there is usually at least one incident per journey at rush hour - like the guy last night that seemed to think that just because he had his are in the air indicating he wanted to pull out into my lane that he had the right to just go and that I should stop/make room for him - which I couldn't because of other traffic around me - once again I got a load of abuse.

Trouble is the bad ones make it worse for those of us that do cycle in a responsible manner. I cringe at some of the things that I see them doing.

If it's classified as a motorway route then no, if it's not then afaik yes

They can ride on anything other than motorways as far as i know... even dual carriageways with 70mph limits. I see bike paths across slip-roads all the time, even though i think it's stupid.

tut, good on you for standing up to him.

Some cyclists are really good, observant and obey the road rules but the majority of them are bloody irritating and a danger to everyone around them. The amount I see on my way to work jumping the lights, squeezing through ridicolous gaps between buses / lorries, wobbling all over the place or suddenly weaving right into the middle of the road is just :smt072

Sounds fair enough. I would do the same.

Isn't this is a bit like envious car drivers complaining about bikers filtering through traffic?
