We should all protest by not filling up at Total service stations for this insult!
A decision to bring in hundreds of Italian and Portuguese contractors to work on a new £200 million plant at the giant Lindsey Oil Refinery at North Killingholme, North Lincolnshire, sparked protests in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and other parts of England in support of jobs for British workers.

Damn, it's not Total we should be mad at, it's the policy on immigration. If the companies are allowed to pay less money to someone to work, then of course they are going to. If the government stepped in and said 'Okay guys, bring in your workers from abroad, but pay them at least minimum wage,' then there would be no problem. There is problems with this in America with Americans complaining about the Mexicans stealing 'their' jobs. If the companies are allowed to pay someone less, then they will. Simple as that.

Why not boycott Esso for the Exxon Valdez or Tescos for not having a national pricing policy or Shell and BP for causing civil strife in Nigera? Boycotts of South African goods did so much to help end apartheid and boycotting Israeli goods (and M&S!) did tons to end the conflict in Gaza.
Suck it up and accept that your actions will have no consequences. |

This is not intended to be at all racist! Its just I think they should have given the situation some thought. National job losses a contract offering jobs and plenty of britts willing to work!

I didn't know I lived in Great Britton and I was Brittish.
edit: I think a lot of you don't realise this contract was signed before the current wave of redundancies began and that the government wasn't involved in the negotiation. There were two rulings in the ECJ that established that it's not possible to prevent the free movement of workers within the EU and that companies have equal rights to bid for contracts anywhere in the EU. It's not like the government can just give two fingers to the rulings - if they reverse this then they're in breach of ECJ rulings and EU directives, which carries financial penalties. |
