MOT Question

Will a bike fail for having a noticable tight spot in the chain?

Thanks, Tom.

get some gunk engine cleaner onto the chain, leave it for 10 mins then clean and lube chain-should sort it

Mine passed... and there was more than one tight spot.
Depends how friendly you are with the tester as i just got a simple "have a look at that chain" when i was on my way out.

didn't realise it would fail for having the ball broken off the end of the brake lever! how annoying.

:p You guys need some better relationships with people. I didn't realise a bike might pass with track exhaust on or that an instructor could sign your pass sheet before you went out :smt083

Re: MOT Question

If your chain has tight links it's not a healthy chain and should be sorted anyway MOT pass or no MOT pass. At the end of the day most of an MOT is about having a fairly safe bike. Loud cans, small indies, small plates are a choice you make and a good relationship with a garage gets them overlooked, but poor bearings, chains, tyres etc may well get you killed and I'd be very disappointed if my local garage chose to overlook them sending me out on a dangerous bike.

Re: MOT Question

My chain looks and moves very healthily, not gunky or stiff at all. It's not got tight links.

Part of the chain has stretched I think from being over tightened, in relation to chain tension, if I roll the wheel, one half will feel right, and the other half maybe a bit lose, so i can never get the perfect tension, as one part is tighter than the rest.
