Loopy insurance

Just idly browsing insurance for my soon-to-be 675

How crazy is this, the exact same bike, exact same details but with only a month or two's additinal experience more than halves the quote:

675, FC, 2yr NCD, 22 months since test pass = £606
675, FC, 2yr NCD, 23 months since test pass = £331
675, FC, 2yr NCD, 24 months since test pass = £293 (3yr NCD = £240)

So it would work out cheaper for me to leave the policy running on my SV until it runs out in May, thus gaining another year's NCD, purchase a couple of months worth of PAYG insurance @£100/m and then insure it with another insurer when i hit the mystical target of 2yrs experience

Of course the really ironic thing is that i'm unlikely to do more than a couple of hundred miles between now and May anyway due to finding the time at the weekends and the weather being carp, so i'll be just as experienced, just more out of practice when they insure me:rolleyes:

Or dont buy the new bike till May.Its only three months and for that saving is worth the wait.

yep, always an option, but considering it's probably going to be another month until i buy at the very earliest (scouting 2008 models on 09 plates) it hardly seems worth the hassle of not paying the additional £50 in that instance

time will tell...

i understand that more experience = less likely to claim, but surely i'm not half as likely to crash in april as i am now?:mrgreen:

i went from 9year NCD down to one when i had my spate of accidents, i made two full claims with one personal injury, i still pay the same kind of premiums tho?

it makes no sense as it should go on journeys you take too as if you just plod along the motorway at 70mph for 20 miles a day then your going to be safer than Mr. Weekend Warrior who rides for 500 miles a year.

my car ins is like that, the bike ins shouuld be alright if i can get my current insurer to cover the D675 until the policy expires in june, then get a new policy and use the 3yrs NCD
