I picked up my beautiful SV650 Sport Saturday. She is in the new bright blue with a white stripe from nose, over the tank and finishes at the tail. I LOVE IT. :smt008

The trouble is I'm having to run it in so plodding along at 4000 revs is annoying. I had a remus exhaust added and it sounds so mean, my boyfriend has a triumph Tiger and from riding with me at the weekend, all he could hear was ME! Now he wants to get a louder exhaust as he says, his sounds like a a pussy cat not a Tiger. Well it is a Triumph!

I had the handle bars converted and it feels so comfortable to ride, the clip on's were just a bit too much for my arthritis. :cheers:

You can go to 5500 Rpm which equates to about 72mph (well on a naked that is).

Read the book the 5500 is in there.

It is a bit of pain not being allowed to go over the 5500rpm mark (I know cos I only just completed the 600 miles and had the service done last saturday). However it can still accellerate reasonably well and still reach approx 75mph in 6th gear on a fully faired version.

Thanks, I did notice that in 6th gear I can get 60mph at just over 4000.

As I have only been riding a year, my first bike was a GS500F, the SV feels so responsive and quick. I have been lucky enough to ride quite a few other bikes and shopped around for the right bike.

It sounds silly but it is the perfect bike...

Just a quick tip, but my dealer told me to try to keep the revs in the 4000 - 5500 during the running in stage (apparently it runs in better).

My dealer said keep it between 4500 and 6000! :)
Saying something about don't be too gentle with it and vary the speed/revs all the time!

I notice you have the Blue, do you find people turning to look at it. The Blue does tend to stand out.

I have to distribute our little mag on the bike Sat/Sun around Maidstone so look out for me anyone in this area. I have been upset lately as Nick my boyfriend got a de-badged high viz Police jacket recently and I am sure everyone thinks he is a Copper as they don't nod at him.

PLEASE guy's if you see a Silver Triumph Tiger and bright Blue SV that's us and he isn't a Copper - Please nod.

Running in is one of those things everyone has an opinion on. One thing almost everyone agrees on*, however, is that you can gradually up the max revs as the engine in runs in (and in fact it's good to do so). Don't think you have to keep it below x number of revs till 600 then you can redline it. It's much better to keep it low early on (though still change gear a bit/vary the revs) then up it gradually. The running in process is a gradient, not an "on/off" value.

running in is a grey area. To me to run it in best the main thing you can do is go do the 600 miles asap (in one go would be best) as everything stays at warm constant temperature and seats correctly.

But short of long testing no one will ever find the right answer.

i hope that they are right:rolleyes: as that is exaxctly how i 'ran mine in', found the rev limiter several times in the first few days (ooops)
