Service question - K6
 

Hi,
I have bought a k6 sv650 it was a cat c right off but it was only cosmetics (top faring), its only done 304 miles yes I sad 304 miles I could not resist buying it I paid £1750 for it. Well getting to the point I need to know when should I do the first service or should I go to Suzuki’s and get I done there?, is it expensive??? And would they give me a service book as I do not have any paper work for it except the logbook. Any advice would be more than appreciated. Thanks tony.:mrgreen::mrgreen:

It should have had its first service at 600 miles or a certain time after it was put on the road.

It sounds like you dont know when it was last serviced, service interval after the first service is every 3500 miles IIRC or 12 months whichever comes soonest.

So... if you dont know when it was last serviced, then I would get it serviced now, especially if its been stood about along time and not been ridden.

You can do it yourself, its not hard but you do need a basic level of compentancy or be prepared to learn as you go along. It depends how competant or confident you are with spanners.

I dont know if a Suzuki dealer would give you a new service book, best thing to do is to ask yuor local dealer, you can get a quote for the service whilslt you're at it and then make up your mind if you are going to get them to do it, or do it yourself.

The advantage of getting somebody who does know what they are doing ( if you do not ) is that they can give the bike a good check over and may spot things that you yourself might miss.

Hi thanks for the hellp, i can service it my sellf but was not shour if it would de value it by not having its first service done at suzuki but remember its only done 304 miles thanks tony

If you dont know the history of the bike, whats been done to it, if its been serviced before, if so, by a mechanic, or someone just messing around that have no idea..

better to just get it checked over first..

It's a new bike to you, and it's been sat a while. I'd be doing more than the first initial service to it (all that is really is an oil/filter change & bolt torque).

I'd be changing brake fluid (done every 2 years by the book, and unless it was made in 2007, it's 2 years old by now), coolant, oil/oil filter. Check plugs, maybe re-gap them.

Also if it's been sat on the floor, check the tyres for flat spots etc. Make sure the brakes aren't binding - in fact I'd be tempted to strip the calipers just to make sure.

Fork oil probably won't need touching, but you may need to grease everywhere, like dogbones/suspension etc etc.

It's devalued anyway by being a Cat C write-off, isn't it?

HI, thanks but the bike is mint and nothing needs gresing and the brake fluid is fine along with the tyers there is nothing wrong with it just pased a mot no prob got the bloke to look all over it incase me and my dad (strest mike) had missed somthing but there's nothing wrong at all and the cat c part on my hpi check it says (category c insurance loss damaged but repairable insurer decided not to repair) thanx for the hellp thow

I think now seeing as the bikes resale value will be shot anyway if you want service it yourself. Brake fluid etc . . will probably be fine just change the oil + filter and be at half revs for 500 miles as the engine is still being run in. If you got a hydrometer you can test the coolant i suppose but apart from that it's a new bike for £1800 by the sounds of it.

Lol. Jog on mate, they don't come with grease fitted as standard.
