rear pad locating spring
 

hi everyone
hope you can help me. i am renewing the rear pads on my k3. i have followed the instructions in the haynes manual. but as i removed the locating pin the old pads fell out so i could not see how they were sitting in the caliper. after cleaning up caliper,old shims and fitting shims to new pads and pushing piston back in to make room. i tried to fit new pads but i just cant seem to get pads to locate and stay in retaining spring. i have checked new pads against old and they seem to be the same dimensions. can anyone explain how or even better photo`s.the haynes manual only shows how the retaining spring should look in the caliper and not how the pad should be inserted. i have now taken the caliper off but it must be me i still cant get them to locate?

any help would be great

Slide the pads roughly into place with the shims behind, bit of copperslip in between. Stick one retaining pin through, stick the other one through one side of the caliper, pop one spring onto the pad and under the pin, push it through the one pad (you have to press the pad up and compress the spring a bit.
Then slide it through some more, put the other spring on, you have to press the spring down a bit with a screwdriver, push the pad up a bit... then push the pin through. It's easier to do than to explain lol.

it has now been about 3hrs or swearing head scratching and haynes reading
i have only one retaining pin and one springclip the pads have two nobbly bits which i thought would somehow slot into this spring clip. i have pushed and pulled the clip around and can not see a way it will clip onto pads . if i put pads into place with pin through both pads they just swing down. help!!!!!

have you got it the right way round?
The longer tabs go on the piston side.

When I reassembled mine the pads needed pushing up quite hard to re-seat them.

Check you've got the clip on the caliper bracket seated correctly.

There is a clip on the bracket, right by the 5 in the diagram. The "other" end of the pads push up and seat on that. You have to push up against the pad locating spring as you swing the caliper down.

it was me i was looking to technical into the job i also thought that the locating spring retained the pads in place.but they just rested on spring as of course the one pad needs to move on piston side.what i didnt realise is the pads sit on top of caliper mounting bracket. anyway fitted caliper and pads back on today ,connected brake hose topped up fluid and bled within 1/2 hr.
