The throttle is all seized up [edit] carb, not throttle

Bike had been sat in the garage for over a week, got it out, started 1st click but the throttle wouldn't move at all.after a bit of wiggling I managed to get it to move but it was stiff as owt.Now excuse my naivity but I'm still getting used to my way round a bike so although I can handle a spanner,I've not really got much of a clue about what bits are what.

Off came the fairing (absolute nitemare btw) then the radiator and followed the cable to that pulley thing.I thought it would just be a case of cleaning and lubing everything up in order to get the recoil action back to the throttle.I oiled the cables and everything else I could get to on both sides of the engine but its still nackered. Its beginning to p me off so ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you disconnect the cables fully and get oil down them, wiggling and twisting to encourage the oil through? My dad had to do this to free up a clutch cable recently.

The other thing is the throttle tube; take off the bar end, and try and get some WD40 or something between the plastic throttle tube and the metal clip-on.

Its defo not the cables.I can't even move the 'pulley thing' with my hand or even with a tool.it just all seems tight.the whole mechanism.its drowned in wd40 too

Is it the twist grip on the handlebar thats seized, or the bit down by the carbs?

Disconnect the pull & return cables from the throttle, then see if the grip will twist.

That will tell you if it's a cables issue, or if it's a grip issue.

If it's a grips issue, you can remove the grips to get at the throttle tube, and replace if necessary, but otherwise just clean & lube it.

There is a spring by the carbs, have you lub'ed that? you may need to take it off and grease it - I've never had a good look myself. Baph is right, see if its the throttle tube aswell

The throttle cables both been disconnected from the grip, oiled.cables are moving freely up and down their tubes. Its when they get to the mechanism at the carb.thats is what is stiff.i can bearly move it with my hand.A friendly lever with a screwdriver moved it and managed to free it very slightly.I reconnected the throttle to see if i could twist it free some more.its still very stiff with no recoil at all.the spring thing can me moved by hand and is not clogged up with sh** or owt, lubed them on both sides.lubed every loint, bolt, arm and spring, soaked them in wd.still stiff,no recoil.
