Anybody from Malvern or near there?
Im going to be working at Three Counties Showground for a weekend and I have never been to the area before. I am a keen walker and climber and I know there are some good hills around there. So I wanted to ask if there is a decent one I can do in a short time window of about four hours. I hope to see some fine views etc..
Thanks in advance for your advice. |
Re: Anybody from Malvern or near there?
To be honest mate they're all pretty much the same, nothing too serious and suitable for families with pushchairs, ramblers and anyone with a couple of hours to spare. If you want climbing and a challenge its not the place for you. There are a few quarries along the hills but I don't know of any climbing faces, I may be wrong though. If you are just after the views head for the Beacon which is the tallest of the lot and gives some pretty good views of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.
If you have a couple of hours spare head into Gt.Malvern itself and just head for the nearest pathway in the direction of the hills, alternatively head for St. Annes Well which has a cafe where they used to serve drinks made from natural Malvern Water which gushes out at the entrance. Not a bad way to kill a few hours on a decent day. |

Or alternatively, get up to British Camp, coffee and a nice rock cake (they are yummy there) and sit and watch the bikes go past, whilst entertaining yourself with the way the drivers use the carpark! If you go you'll see what I mean!!
Which weekend are you there, and are you on a bike? |
Re: Anybody from Malvern or near there?
As above really, Malvern is a lovely place and in 4 hrs you could have a nice relaxing walk up to the beacon & back ;-)

Does anyone else remember the cafe that used to be on top of the Beacon?

Re: Anybody from Malvern or near there?
Thanks for your comments, I will be going up the beacon I think.
Im in a van sadly so no bike otherwise would have met some of you locals for a tour. What about a decent pub for the evenings, we are staying right in Malvern. Its the last weekend in March (28/29th). |

Sorry, I don't know of any good pubs, but I'll ask at work when I'm back next week, because several teachers live there. What's stopping a meet up cos you've got a cage not a bike?? LOL! |
