Back / Spine protector
 

Bought some second hand leahers on Ebay and altought they are perfectly good, although a little bit old fasioned the back protector has snapped in two.

I have 2 options

1. Buy a replacement insert
2. Buy a proper back protector.

I am more inclined to go with option 2 as they seem to offer more protection and I can also wear it under my winter textiles which only have a small foam protector anyway.

Looking on ebay I have seen back protectors range in price from £15 to £150. I only paid £70 for the leathers so don't really want to go crazy.

Are there any anyone could reccomend?

I know somwone will say "what price can you put on you spine" etc but in my short biking career I have found that with kit the most expensive part is always the designer label and expensive doesn't always mean best.

Go for a "strap it to you" Forcefield Back Protector - will cost about £80.

Defo get a strap it to you back protector.

I have a Dainese Wave13 back protector as its the only one I was comfortable in under my leathers and it was the only one I happy that covered the areas I wanted it to cover.

Everybody is different shapes though, your best going and trying them all (under YOUR leathers) then making you mind up. There no point buying a cheap one off ebay that doesnt fit you and is uncomfortable.....because you just wont wear it.

I bought a cheap one of ebay for £15 I'm happy.
Bit like the ones you get in Lidl sometimes.

I'm not that way inclined.....I had never heard of them until I tried it on in the shop. Infact I never knew there was so many different brands of back protector until I started looking.

I have a Forcefield pro L2, bought after reading about bigapes off, fits like a glove, would not be without it. :)

Another vote for Forcefield. Brilliant kit.

Go for L2 protection level (they do L1 spec too, but this is lower level).

Note that they do upgrade "inserts" to fit in jackets and trousers too, back protectors come in 3 shapes according to the shape of the pocket in the jacket, also do shoulder/elbow/knee/hip inserts.

The back inserts are a lot cheaper than the strap-ons (ooer) if cost is an issue. I have to say that the insert in the jacket is a lot more convenient when I'm touring on holiday, and because there's an air gap it isn't as hot in summer, although ultimately it almost certainly doesn't offer quite the same protection. Some compromises I accept. The strap-on can get too hot I find (30+C continental riding)

The forcefield seems to get the nod in nearly every review over other back protectors , does it fit to the shape of your back through use , if so does it take long ? I tried one on and it felt like having a bit of plywood strapped to my back . It did feel a bit too long as well and they never had a medium to try so it may just have been that . Did it feel a bit weird to start with ?
