Riding without road tax... whoops!

My road tax expired yesterday, and i completely forgot about it till today (only got the bike last week).
I remember seeing an advert not that long ago that says something about the dvla knowing if you have tax or not (i think it was tax) and that they send a letter to your house if it isn't renewed and you havn't declared the vehicle off the road...
The post office probably isnt open now but i can sort it out tomorrow. I wont get fined will i?

If you just bought it they probably havnt caught up on the details yet.You may have to go to the post office for it.You will need the MOT insurance cert the right form(Vsomething) and the money.

I dont think i have the MOT cert. The bike is only a 2007 reg, i thought they dont need an MOT in the first 3 years? (i hope!)

Highly unlikely for one day, unless they got you on ANPR whilst riding, in which case you may have to explain why to the DVLA or a magistrate...

Just do it online now and if they'll almost certainly start it from when the previous tax ended and forget about it, you can legally ride while waiting for the physical disc to arrive, they give you 5 days for it to arrive in the post

I unknowingly rode without tax yesterday. Booked MOT for 10am so went online to tax it on Friday night (bike was SORN at the time), but it said disc would start from 1st February. Tried online again Saturday morning and it said same, no way was I paying for 6 months tax but only getting 5 months, so went to Post Office first thing. Massive queue outside Post Office of people having same problem and therefore going to PO for tax. Anyways, got the disc (for full 6 months), came home, rode to MOT and back again and found out this afternoon the tax disc wasn't valid until today. Oooops :)

yu get 14 days to tax a vehicle when it runs out of tax. Just don't ride it until its done.
Yup got caught out myself. Got suzy fixed yesterday, thought it would be a good idea to take her today for a run, but then remembered yesterday she'd need doing, but was out so couldn't get to PO office...ahh well will do it tomorrow.

If you haven't got the V5 yet, then don't - the disc will be sent to the previous keeper.

Urban myth - there is no formal time between tax expiring and getting it taxed again/sorn'd. It's just the system takes time to catch up.....
