Loud bang on start up.

I think i read a thread about this before but cant seem to search it.

Firstly im pretty sure my carbs need balancing as the bike misfires ever so slightly (mainly when warm).

when i started it up from cold the other day there was a massive bang that frightened the life out of me! just wondering if this was due to the carbs being out of balance or it was something else...

Cheers

Haha! Don't worry about the loud bang, I've had a few - its just some petrol vapour igniting in the exhaust and not in the engine - perhaps some unburnt fuel made it through to the exhaust or something when you turned it off the time before the bang.

A carb balance will help with the miss-fires when the bike is running; i assume its due to being ever so slightly "rich". DO you have an aftermarket loud exhaust fitted? they can induce a bit of popping and banging :D

no its a standard exhaust. i thought i had been shot when it banged! haha very loud in the garage!

i think i may have heard it 'pop' while riding yesterday too...

im going to get her serviced at the weekend i think, keep meaning to do it myself but never find the time!

i meant to say....would something to do with the choke plungers / cable cause it run slightly rich?

The choke doesnt feel loose or anything when i operate the lever for it...but im not sure if it woud feel different?!

How many miles since it was last serviced? You might need a new air filter (if the current one is clogged up, then it'll richen up the fuel/air mix i think?) and maybe you need new spark plugs too. Dont worry tooooo much, its not a big problem as long as you get it looked at now :D

its probably been a couple of thousand miles, just over...

a full service would sort her out then i guess!
