rusty chain
 

Ok im a little conerned. Got a scottoiler on the sv after the chain snapped. Now its turned up quite heigh and is definatly oiling it and everything else. However ive noticed on the inside the pins are a little rusty. Im going to give it a clean on sat but any advice is welcome as to why and how to stop it.

Where abouts is the feed on the oiler positioned? As long as you're lubing the centre of the chain then there isnt necessarily a problem.

Did you fit the Oiler yourself? If not I would be taking it back to the fitter as I too would be concerned especially if I'd just forked out on a new chain, sprockets and oiler!

the oil dosent prevent the chain from rusting. So the chain can be perfectly lubed and still rust. I know this becasue I used mine, cleaned the chain and lubed it. Went away for 2 weeks, came back and my chain was rusty.

solution = clean chain again, rub off as much rust as you can. apply AFC50 then lube and dont worry about rust anymore :)

(you might have to apply the AFC50 again at some point if the rust starts to come back, but this depends on usage and weather)

Hmmmm never had the problem myself, I feel mine onto the rear sprocket, centrifugal force carries it to the rollers and the seals.

It is fitted to drip it onto the side of the rear sprocket, works fine on mine and several other bikes.

Is applying ACF-50 to the chain OK for it?

Yeah doesn't hurt, can't see it really doing much good either though except cosmetically.

it worked wonders on mine, stoped the rust no problems. Im not saying use this instead of lube, you still been to lube the chain, it just prevents rust.

Thats good news for me too, to date ive resisted putting it on my chain fearing its not suitable. Everything else is coated in ACF though :-)

I doh like rust....... or dirt !
