fork air gap and stuff
I've just read about 50 threads on this subject and got two conficting answers in the end!
It's a '99 SV - it has '02 preload caps but I dont think that matters. 1. Is the standard gap 104mm, or 140mm? 2. Is this the same with Ohlins springs in there? I dont have the install leaflet. 3. One oil seal was fubar'd, one ok. I'm stripping em both completely. Is it ok re-using the good un (I only bought one seal at the time) or will it be knackered removing it? |
Re: fork air gap and stuff
according to my haynes it is 104 for 99-2001 models
and 115 for k2 with the adjustable caps. I therefore assume that the volume of the adjustable cap is greater therefore you need greater air gap to be displaced etc. Well adds confusion anyway |
Re: fork air gap and stuff
oil level is easy to change, I would start with 125mm.
it is fine to reuse good seal, in fact there is no reason to take it off. |
Re: fork air gap and stuff
Cheers tim.
I measured the amount in there currently, 114mm. With a little drizzle of oil on the spring and spacer i removed, i guess it was right before. I thought I'd lost 10mm worth to the leaky seal! :smt017 I guess the ohlins measurement is same as stock aswell. Cool, cool. |
