do you need the K&N cleaning kit |
Re: how do you clean a K&N air filter?
Hmmm, i think its no more than carb cleaner or similar. You can use and airline and blow form the inside out. To b honest, they have a usable life uto about 30000 miles before they need cleaning.
The Cleaning kit does come with cleaner AND the oil you need to re oil it. |

It's not a solvent cleaner... more like a soap, it's wierd stuff, it makes the oil soluble in water. Worth getting the kit, or a bit of google-fu to find out a backyard replacement.
(the filter oil you can get all over the place, my local place for the off road bikes does it pretty cheap) |

Echo what Chris says - don't use a solvent on the filter, they get damaged quite easily in the wrong stuff.

I washed mine with dry cleaning fluid, seems ok.

Not that I'd thought of that before, but I'm sure you're right. The K&N is made of a fibrous material that may well be organic - dry cleaning fluid sounds like a good idea.
