Tendonitis!
I commute to work every day and used the bike for a good few miles on the weekend, my left hand is in agony. I've had a boxers fracture before but I'm pretty sure it's tendonitis as the pain runs from the middle of my hand to my wrist.
Any way to make the clutch lever lighter / closer to the grips? (just like you can do with the brake lever?) |
Re: Tendonitis!
Exchange 650 for a 1000. Lighter and adjustable clutch lever :)

Re: Tendonitis!
If it is tendonitis, which I doubt because wrist and finger extensors and flexors develop tendonitis and tendinosis at their proximal insertion, not their distal one, then you're not going to get any better without completely resting that hand for a period.

Re: Tendonitis!
I think it's a combination of a lot of stop start miles on the bike and a heavy session in the gym on tuesday which probably also contributed. Either way a lighter clutch with less travel would be nice as I use the bike a lot in traffic. Is it an easy swap for a 1000 clutch cable?

Re: Tendonitis!
No. 'Cos the 1000 ain't got a clutch cable.
Making the clutch lighter isn't easy. Making it closer to the 'bar is just a matter of slackening the cable adjuster a bit. For more info on the subject see here, particularly the last post. |
Re: Tendonitis!
Erm, no mate. The 1000 uses a hydraulic clutch. That's why you need to swap the whole bike.

Re: Tendonitis!
Start with making sure all the bits are in top condition.
Take the worm drive apart and check all the balls are present and correct, replace if not. Grease well. Renew the cable if it's done good service. Oil the new cable well, I use a small plastic bag with a corner snipped off and held on with a rubber band, then add some clean oil and hang it up to allow the oil to work down overnight. Then make sure the levers are at the right angle, as standard they are usually too high. Loosen the clamps and rotate the assembly down until you don't need to flex your hand back to get your fingers on the lever. |
Re: Tendonitis!
I'm going to have a proper mess about on the weekend, won't be out on the bike so will rest the hand too. I'll just put up with it.
