A police officer has been found guilty of causing the death of a 16-year-old schoolgirl by dangerous driving.
Pc John Dougal, 41, had accelerated to 94mph (151km/h) in a 30mph zone before he hit Hayley Adamson in Newcastle in May, the city's crown court heard.
A police driving expert told the court that the patrol officer's speed was unjustified, but Dougal had claimed he had been driving safely.
Northumbria Police said it accepted responsibility for Hayley's death.
The car's siren and lights had not been activated at the time, the jury heard.
Following the conviction, Judge David Hodson said a prison sentence was inevitable.
Scary, watching the video 94, doesn't seem all that fast in that situation, but obviously was :( very sad for both parties involved.

IMO 94 shouldn't have been considered w/out Blues & twos. I understand that there are circumstances when the Police don't want to put them on - but then they shouldn't drive so fast.

There's no way that speedo is accurate

:D

This is sad, agreed. Reminds me of that video where the undercover police bike chases that other guy, and the police guy does 130 in a 60, and 95 in a 30.

Just shows that speed in built up areas, especially, kills. :x:eek:

Thing is, if it were a normal guy, the punishment would have been twice as bad at least!

Well there's no hope for any of us if the Police can't get a decent speedo

+1 TLW.

I'm with you Stu, blues & twos should excuse them from speed limits, and there should be very very strict rules on exceeding speed limits without sirens/lights (silent approach in the dark for example).

RIP Hayley. :(

I think that is a wild leap TBH. OK triple speed limit is ill advised, but they want to give you 6 points for just 20 mph over the limit  WTF

Heard about this earlier, so sad, sweet 16 :-(. There was no excuse for travelling at such speeds without fair warning, especially as the copcar has a capacity to do so!

He says he didn't put the siren and lights on because "he had not wanted to alert the other driver to his presence" but anyone would have got suspicious of being chased by a car, he could have followed him for a good while at normal speed and checked the bloke's registration for further information could he not?

I'm not the kind of person who goes, 'OH DEAR THAT'S DISGRACEFUL, SOMETHIN' SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THAT', but i can't believe someone with advanced qualifications and a high pressure job like that thought it was ok to go past even 60 in a 30 without blues n twos. Surely the guy in front would've worked out he was being followed if there was a nutter behind going like stink.

I think this is bordering on hypocrassy(sp), one might argue that you canīt have your cake and eat it.

RIP Hayley.
