New here, new bike, couple of problems.

hi there
i'm matt and i live in eltham.
my cards behind he bar.

this evening i just brought a curvy x reg 650.
on the way home i noticed a couple little problems.

1st thing i lifted the side stan up and the bike didn't want to idol if u close the throttle while slowing down it just cuts out!. any ideas

2nd was goin crazy on idle and every now and then while going along the road, my theory is there a lose connection behind the dash.

3rd thing trying to cruse at 50 along the a2 the bike got a bit hesitant and surging. with the odd back fire and also cruising at low rev's and the exhaust would be popin all over the place, apparently the bike had a scorpian race can but now it standard can i reckon it jetted to suit the can plus i reckon the bike been sitting for a while so i'm hoping that the surging etc will dissapear with a service which i'll do next couple of weeks and some fuel system cleaner throw in to help to.

any ideas and help would be appreciated,

many thanks

Get it serviced I'd say, sounds like you need to clean the carbs out.. Just report the issues to the mechanic and any competent one should be able to sort you out. :)

Hiya there, we'll all try our best to help :D

With fitting a can and nothing else, you dont normaly need to change the carb jetting (I havn't with my fuel can, and many others havn't to my knowledge). I think you need to get the carbs balanced, and inspect the choke (lube the cable, check the choke plungers...I'm not certain where these are though but if the choke is rarely used, or the bike has been standing a while, then these can get stuck open a bit causing fueling problems).

You may also have issues with stale fuel - did the previous owner leave the motorcycle standing for a long time without running it?

regarding the sidestand; there is a little switch down there, which may be dirty or have a loose connection - you'll see it as a little kind of plunger. Spray it with WD40 and clean it up, see how it goes.

I hope this gives you some things to try out. Maybe try some fresh fuel first (stick in shell V-power as this has some additives which help with cold-starting).

Cheers,

Matt

Re: hi there

Thought about the choke being on full, sometimme when i put my choke on full to start it will run for a while and then cut out, and obviously when the bike warm and te chokes on still it will idle like a crazy mofo! I know it may sound obvious but sometimes its the obvious things you miss! :D
