31st of May Ice Cream Run

31st OF MAY CULLEN ICE CREAM RUN

Route

This is the route, meetin Hungry Highlander at a time not yet speficified, fueling at Braemar so everyone has a full tank.
Riding north until Huntly, *think* we are stopping for ice cream/fag stop/possibly petrol in Huntly, then bypassing Huntly, and taking the left to Dufftown, which is a nice peice of road, until we reach Aberlour, where we will head south until Granton-on-Spey, where the organised route will finish, giving the guys who want to the chance of going down the A9 home. I personally, will be going down the Tomintoul road, anyone who fancies it are very welcome to join in, the views are fantastic.

Nice!
But you do realise we need to do a test run before? :)

Like I said I should be up for this but even if I can't give me a shout if you want some company when you do your test run.

Blood hell lads thats an ambitious run.

Remember some of the attendees will have 100miles and at least 2 hours before and after the route

Looks like a meet at Braemar..

This may be a possibility / necessity if the route is that long

Does sound a tempting run guys but by the time you add in stops / food etc it will be a very long day.

Not trying to influence your decision but erhaps a slight modification could be in order.

I dont know the routes in the area so played with your map purely on the basis of time and distance based around the towns youd used and came up with This Not suggesting it as a final route just that something slightly shorter than the initial one may allow more attendees.
By all means ignore me and stick with the initial route (I will still attend, but may have to stay over) just feel it may rule a few folks out.

Well, good point KG, 180 miles is big. On the other hand the roads are great and it's difficult to decide which ones to do and which to leave out. Saorabla went for the best solution and basically made up a route with all of them included :D
Spearies, we really need to sit down and get this one ready. Hope I can make it this Monday (work is a nightmare at the moment :/).

Re: 31st of May Cullen Ice Cream Run

Anyone off Monday to test some of these routes before the meet at night?
KG's route misses out Cullen. If we do Cullen (perfectly good ice cream shop in Huntly)I don't think we can do Forres to Grantown.
We want to avoid the A96 if possible, it's a slow road Quite a lot of traffic.
I have a few routes in mind but if we keep posting different routes it'll get confusing
or is that just me :-k I know most of the roads thats been suggested and there all good (except A96 speed camera vans everywhere) you'll have done quite a few miles on excellent roads so the Forres to Grantown could easily be missed out. Do the people from the south want to go back down the way they came up or just head down A9 from Aviemore?

And last but not least turns out I have a night out on the 30th may so not sure if I'm going to make it :( but I'll help in any way I can to organize.
Sorry guys I forgot about the night out when I said I could make the 31st #-o

180 miles is fine, its the additional 200 to get there and back thats the killer. I am an iron Butt:shaking:, so would do this, either in a day or staying overnight, but feel you may loose others.

Forget Largs, this sounds fun, put me down for it. Unfortunately, got a rally that week-end as well.....so I will be looking like the 'wicked witch of the west'.....again! Sorry folks!

Re: 31st of May Cullen Ice Cream Run

well thats 338miles for me...

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...3,2.139587&z=9

that equates to about 12hours (at a nice leisurely pace) including stops and piddle/fag breaks... suppose its doable.

but if its ****ing down i'm not doing it coz i'm a big fat whooozzzzz

edit: milage is if we do KG's plan
