hey peeps, sorry probably been covered before and if it has again sorry.
My front forks feel really soft and wishy washy on my Sv 650 ive jusyt bought and i was thinking of putting some new oil in. But imnot sure what i need im a newbie so not very knowledgeable.
Im about 13.5 stone and was wondering just for a fix at minute if i go tsome fork oil for my weight etc and replaced the old fork oil with the new one for my weight would this improve the handling?

First thing that will help, have you set up sag? (measure forks full extended then again with you on and the difference, or amount you compress them is sag, this should be about 35mm...)

Fresh thicker oil might help, but thats mostly dampening which with your weight isnt really the right way to go about it. The best would be to get some heavier springs. I cant tell you what though but there is a site you can check on for your weight but I cant find it... maybe someone else can help there?

when you say measure forks at full extend do you mean lif tthe bike so front wheel is off the ground?

Easiest way to make sure they are fully extended so yep :)

You will (unless you are extremely strong) need help of course :p

Why be tinkering with a new bike when you could be riding? :)

Bump up the front and rear preload if you have not done so already. 1 ring on front, one number (ie 3-4) on the rear, go for a run , come back , bump it up some more. Go for a run, if its "crashy" over bumps, go home and back it off a notch. Find summit that you are happy with.

For your weight you should be able to find a compromise. Its a budget bike with budget sussies. Nothing that can not be learned to be ridden round. :)

at the minute my back is knackered so i can't really ride at the moment so thought id try sort some stuff out, its a 2000 model so i havent got any pre laods adjustment

uprate your springs and oil-do a search on here, you'll then be sorted.

my mate just helped me 2 measure it. think he said full fork is 31 inch and then with me on it was 29 inch

Your In Barnsley!? No way, where abouts? have to go out for a tootle some time :D

2" is too much IMO, That would explain the overly soft feeling! Different riders like different amounts but id be looking for about 35mm so about 1.5" as a start point. The springs are a little on the soft side for you but not extremely, you could get away with it if you could jack up the preload a little.

Anyone know if you can fit on the pre-load adjusters off of later forks so Lucas has a chance to set things up?

hey mate yea im from barnsley, royston to be precise lol.
I read somewhere that the stock oil in the Sv is 5 w or 7 w so i was thinking of trying 10 or 15 w not sure , havent really got th emoney to get the hyperpro pregressive springs.
would it be worth saving up fo rthese
