High Idle '02 SV650
Hello from across the pond!
I'm considering an '02 SV650 with approximately 7,700 miles on it for $3000 USD. The bike looks like it's in fairly good condition (minor scratches on the tank from a decal being removed with a razor blade, rear turn signal mount cracked from backing into the garage, minor crack in the tail plastics). I see no evidence of the bike being dropped or abused. The seller claims that the bike will idle 1-2k rpm high. He said that he's adjusted the idle speed screw according to the manual but that it didn't resolve the issue. Does this sound like a symptom that's indicative of a serious problem? I would guess that the carbs need to be cleaned/adjusted. I've looked through the manual and online resources and that does not seem to be something that is very difficult to do if I take my time and have the right tools (am I wrong on that point?). |

clean choke plungers out, then balance carbs see how it idles then.

I'll start with that. The bike seems to start and run fine, it's just that it occasionally idles high. I believe it's been sitting a bit through the winter. I won't have the rest of the funds needed to make the purchase for a couple of weeks, so I'm going to keep searching around. I'm glad I found this forum.

Seven year old bike, and you are paying top money so I would expect it to be running right.Im sure its fixable, and Id want a good wedge off the asking price if it needs attention.
