Scrubbing in new tyres

I've read on here about how important it is and how you really do have to be careful but now i see what everyone was on about!

got new dunlop d208's on the thou, took her from newport to ross on wye and back (around 80miles). at slow speed corners really couldnt bank her over much without it feeling like she was going to let go. Kind of like riding on glass i guess.

tried to stay on the dual carriage ways and just get some heat in the tyres and work on constant speed corners (70~mph).

Dumped the throttle when up straight on the motorway at the end of the trip and no twitching or anything so at gentle angles seems to be ok now (less like glass). Just wondering how am i supposed to get the rest of the tyre scrubbed if i can't afford to push her too hard (i.e. too fast and too much an angle) ?

Do a burn out? :p

You just have to take it very carefully and gradually increase your lean angle bit by bit. just dont go banking it over too early or like you say, or it will have you off.

Just gradually increase your lean angle and corner speed, it'll be fine.

If you've done 80 miles or so your out of the worst faze of scrubbing anyway...

I had some tyres fitted a couple of weeks ago. Did 15 miles on the motorway to get some proper heat into them then 15miles on the a road I know most of which has shell grip on it.

Tyre was well scrubbed in by the end of it.

Scrubbing in tyres is generally a confidence thing, and it certainly doesn't take 100+ miles. You need to warm them up gently and then just ride them steadily for the first few corners. If you think about it we are always putting brand new tyres on at trackdays and then going for it after just a few laps, the road is no different other than it just takes a bit longer to warm them up.

or buy race scrubs so therefore no need to worry about scrubbing in.

When i've had new tyres, i just take it easy. The shiny stuff wears off pretty quick..my first ride with my cutrrent front, when it was new, was in the damp. That was a bit unnerving but it was all in teh mind - had plenty of grip

gonna get out and do some more miles today or tomorrow so will start getting her leaned over more. might well be that cause the old pair were a bit squared off i'm just noticing the fact that the bike is able to turn in quicker now.

The last new tyre I had on was scrubbed in enough to accommodate as much abuse as I am good enough to give them within 30 miles.
