info on chain cleaning
Think the general consensus on the .org is to clean your chain with kerosene/paraffin but for those of you who still swear by wd40 despite what people say; I found this article scroll down to the bottom to see wd40's affects on a sealed bearing.
As soon as my cheap can of chain cleaner runs out I'll be on the paraffin me thinks. Probably cheaper than penetrant anyway. Hope this is of some help to someone. |
Re: info on chain cleaning

cheers dave - will help me to start really looking after my bike fully/properly, as I used wd40 on the 650 chain... silly sausage.

Re: info on chain cleaning
I've never trusted wd40 really, only ever use it for degreasing, cleaning up plastics, and getting out rusty bolts. I use wurth equivelent when possible because of the rumours wd40 contains low level acids that'll corrode stuff if left applied to a surface for a while.
So that combined with the fact it's a penetrant would put me off using it on my chain. Then again lots of people have sworn by it for years. |
Re: info on chain cleaning
WD40 is a water displacer, hence the name WD - the fact that it happens to degrease and lubricate is secondary...
Chain cleaner to clean the chain Chain lubricant to lube the chain Simple;) |

WD can degrease, it can even lubricate, but it will do neither as well as a degreaser or a lubricant |
