Rubber dampers on clutch plate
Anyone know which way round they go? Inward or outward? :D Just making sure...

?What rubber dampers on a cluch plate? Do you mean the 'rubber' bands on one of the plates? If so, i didnt think they had a right/wrong way, otehr than its the plast plate you put in.

Those are the ones, the dampers look like a rubber staple, and sort of clip on over the friction plate.

Yep, boyfriend's had them out before, but this time cant remember which way round they went. So it definately doesnt matter which way round they go? :rolleyes:

Hi,
I ordered a set of new (non-genuine) clutch plates from www.bitzforbikes.com and the ones that came didn't have the rubber bands on the 4 spokes of the thicker plate. My Haynes manual has in bold type that the rubber bands should not be removed which suggests to me they're quite important. When I spoke to my Suzuki dealer he obviously stated that he couldn't comment on non-genuine stuff, but if it was a kit recommended for the bike then it should be ok. Has anyone used the non-genuine ones on their bike, and if so, how did it go? Any replies appreciated Cheers, Ian |

We bought some non Suzuki friction plates and they are going ok so far, have done around 300 miles since fitting them. Figured out the problem with my clutch as the basket as after we filed it down I've had no problems with drag, though it does now sound like a Kawasaki :eek:. |

Had some EBC friction plates on mine and they did not have the bands. It seemed to work fine when I did the job.

Just to report back, I've done a couple of hundred miles on the new non-genuine ones and in general they're fine.
However I've noticed a few times pulling off in 1st at low revs that it's a little juddery which didn't happen with the old ones. I noticed in the Haynes manual that K3 versions onwards have a slightly different clutch assembly which includes an anti-judder plate. I'm guessing that the rubber bands are the pre-K3 version of the an anti-judder mechanism. It's not a problem for me, but I'm guessing it's one of these things where if you want to pay that bit extra then there is some benefit to be had |
