I think we all know the risks but when it comes to family I think for many this is the main reason we would choose not to ride. His kids were older but whilst mine are young it has grown more on me to curb my riding behaviour to a point where I rarely ride for pleasure on the roads.

very sad, and i'm sure he was a better/more experienced rider than i'll ever be, thoughts go out to the family.

Well he can't be that experienced, if he did a wheelie and crashed into an oncoming car, even if it was parked.. anyway that's for another time.

Sad, and I don't want this to detract from the family's loss at all...

But totally uncalled for to show the movie to anyone who attends the pub.

How likely are we to see videos of people dying of heart disease in fast food restaurants? (one in three of us will...)

It looks like it is the families wish to educate other bikers* and I imagine it would be largely only bikers in the SP, or do you mean as a biker in that pub you wouldn't want the video forced down your throat like the anti smoking adverts on a packet of cigarettes? surely it would be easy enough not to watch it?



*so when is it going to be on You Tube?

That's not really the same thing - showing videos of alcoholism and heart disease at the pub would be more in line with your example.

Surely those videos we got shown at school are the same in principle ie:

Don't cross the railways tracks or your legs will get chopped off

or

if your mate kicks a football into the powerstation - don't go and get it.

The thing which make it seem distastful is that it is real rather than actors, but at the end of the day the images would be the same (real or acted) and therefore so would the message, no?

I guess I am just relating to the 'ride sensibly idea' they are selling which is underlined by consideration to your family and the loss of close ones. I ride from time to time if I need to get from A to B - but the social road riding for highs are not at the forefront as they used to be.

Sorry if I came across as having a go at you :( I don't mean to, it's admirable that you can give up what you love for the sake of your family, guess I'm just being selfish & missing you from rideouts

Surely the moral of this story is to not do wheelies on public roads to impress your mates?

I'm not trying to make out like the guy deserved it or anything, everyone tends to do something a bit silly now and then. It's a good reminder of the sort of silly things we shouldn't do though.
