Oil Filter Tool - Wemoto - Hi Flo only?
Hello, mighty .org, I am in need of your ultimate knowledge and bow before you all (flattery, see? See?)
It's time for me to attempt my first oil change, and I like the idea of having the proper tool for the job :smt117 Is this Wemoto Oil Filter Wrench for Hi Flo filter useful for ALL filters (original Suzuki on there at the mo), or will it really only fit Hi Flo? The fitment shape looks the same, but (as we've all found to our cost) that doesn't mean it IS the same! I really want to be able to get the old one off without too much effort, though I fear this may be the case  Opinions and other options please - and on the Hi Flo filters from Wemoto, too! K3 S pointy 22,500 miles (in "needs-a-clean silver") and loving it... Thank you, thank you, thank you. |
Re: Oil Filter Tool - Wemoto - Hi Flo only?
Just use a strap wrench. Around a fiver from your local motor factors.

Re: Oil Filter Tool - Wemoto - Hi Flo only?
Just use a big wrench or ram a screwdriver through it and use that. Not really any point in buying a tool for it.

Re: Oil Filter Tool - Wemoto - Hi Flo only?
Last time I tried the screwdriver trick on a car filter, it gradually tore throught the whole thing as I levered it around and I'm bu66ered if I'm doing that again!
Strap wrench the best thing, then? Oh, and Hein Gericke 10W40 semi synth at £13.99 seems a good deal to me. |
Re: Oil Filter Tool - Wemoto - Hi Flo only?
Get the wemoto one because you can use a torque wrench when you put the new one in

Re: Oil Filter Tool - Wemoto - Hi Flo only?
So, does the Wemoto one fit Suzuki and Champion (etc) as well as the Hi Flo it's specified for?
|
Re: Oil Filter Tool - Wemoto - Hi Flo only?
IIRC it does fit the suzuki but I'm not 100% on that. The safe bet is to have a strap wrench on hand for removal of the old one in case of odd filters.
Don't use a torque wrench on filters, you'll never get the sodding thing off again unless you use the tool. Hand tight is plenty. |
Re: Oil Filter Tool - Wemoto - Hi Flo only?
Strap wrench it is, then. Lots of contrasting opinion on Suzuki filters vs Hi Flo and Champion etc, anyone got anything to add? :)
