exhaust leaking help

2 Attachment(s)
hi. i'm trying to fix the leak on my exhaust as the MOT is due this week. i've got some gun gum but not sure where abouts to put the stuff so some pointers would be great. i've taken the exhaust apart and have included some pictures but not sure how to put them up so bear with me.

General rule of thumb here is to put the Gun Gum inside where it cannot be seen , can be quite messy stuff . I did mine by putting it inside any link pipes , don`t go crazy with the stuff as a thin bead will do nicely ...... when you slide the pipes together it should just fill the gaps nicely ...... I used Fire Gum to be honest as it was the only thing I could see in the shop I was in .

You do not need to smear it all over the inside of any link pipes etc , try and get it a bit further in and bead it in like toothpaste , these exhaust leaks are not that big anyway and I reckon some MOT stations are not that fussed about them , I only did it where my can connects to the link pipe as it was putting little Black marks onto the link where it was escaping :)

Welcome to the site by the way :)

That exhaust paste is a complete and utter ******* to get off again.

I've not tried it but I know a few who have, get some builders silicone sealant and spread some of that over the joints and then it'll seal it up nicely. Plus its easy to remove again and it doesnt make a mess like the exhaust paste does that you've bought.

Firstly, are you using any exhaust clamps to secure the end can to the connecting pipe and the connecting pipe to the mid section? I can see any there.

If you need to get it in an exact place to reduce mess , may I suggest getting a Plastic carrier bag , dollop the paste into a corner of that , cut the corner off the bag and pipe it in like a Chef Icing a cake :)

To add to previous post, you'd be wasting your time using the that paste without any clamps ;)

It sets hard but vibrations at joint would make it crack and voila, we have a blowing exhaust.

If you also need to pop it into place with a finger , may I suggest a cup of Water nearby to wet the end of your finger so the Gum doesn`t stick to it , you can get a less "Peaky" finish and not drag it back out with a dry finger :) , this may have to become "xXBADGERXx`s Top Tip" Number 2

its only a MOT, as long as its not massivly blowing then it should pass, then you can put the aftermarket can back on, well it looks like you are putting a stock can on the bike
