Pirelli Dragon SC Pros vs Diablo SC
 

Hi all,

Just been mulling around on t'internet to price up some new race tyres. I came across the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP.

Are these a replacement for the Dragon Supercorsa PRO then or am I missing something?

Anybody raced on them?

I think I'm right in saying these aren't a replacement because as far as I can see they aren't available in sizes to fit the sv.
The Dragon is still listed on the Pirelli website so it must be still available.
I'd be interested to hear what you chose as I'm looking for a new pair of tyres for my sv track bike.

Diablo's are the ones you want. I think the Dragon's are what come as OE fitment on the likes of 675s and Duke 1098/1198's these days

Tread pattern is different on the Diablos, so you should be able to tell the difference

I have seen them for sale in sizes for SV although not listed on the Pirelli site

I run pirelli dragon supercorsa pro's usually a sc1(soft/medium compound) front and a sc2(medium/hard compound) rear on the road.

There are two kinds of the road legal race tyres there are the road version which have a slightly higher silica ratio and the race version which has less silica meaning more dry but less wet grip.

As for the sizes there are some 60 profiles out there but they are hard to come by. what i usually run is a 70 profile. the benifit of the 70 profile is that there is more of a foot print at higher angles of lean and it makes the bikes inital turn in quicker.

The other thing i found was that the tyres highlighted the short comings of the chassis and suspension particulary in fast sweeping bumpy corners.


There a great tyre and have more grip than you'll ever need and when they do start to let go they warn you and start to go slowly giving you time to catch it unlike some that just build and build and then twang like a rubber band breaking.

Feed back is positive letting you know about every ripple in the road without it being un-nerving.

to sum them up i'd say predictable - reliable - confidence inspiring but only when its not raining.

p.s. Just omne other thing the grip is there from the beginning just aslong as your not too agressive getting on the throttle until the've had time to warm up.

oh and to answer the other bit. The new diablo's are the replacement of the dragons just a different tread pattern is all. and there meant to be just as good if not better than the dragons, although i haven't tried them yet but my mates who ride thou's say there just as good as the race-tecs.

I can understand what your after. but i see the road use more of a test for the tyres than track as on the road the tyres have to deal with bumps and ruts that your unlikley to find on the track.

These tyres handle them well and like i said are predictable. so when your out on track and arriving at the braking area where the cars have rippled the surface you know that the tyres aren't going to induce massive amounts of chatter if at all any.


I know on the road we never get to the full optimum working temperature on every ride but it goes to show that if you are just off the pace the lack of heat in the tyres isn't going to impeed you unlike slicks.


From chatting with the lads they say the new diablo SC's are just the same all though they seem to reach optimum working temerature quicker which is why a couple of them ran early spring instead of the race-tecs.

the results they had has made a couple of them ditch the race-tecs and carry on using them now the weather is a bit warmer.


They seem to work well they bobble up nicley and if your gentle on the gas whilst there still cool they dont suffer from cold tear as much as the race-tecs.


I will hopefully be seeing the lads this weekend and if i can i'll get some pics of the diablos and post them up for you to gander at.

I used to have the dragons on my bike till a few weeks ago when I had to change them for the mot. The garage tried to get some more for me but couldnt seem to source any, so he suggested the diablo. Im glad he did they are a far superior tyre to the dragon and so instill much more confidence when cornering. well worth a shot.:compress:

Sorted, a pair of Diablo SuperCorsa on the way. Will be racing on them in a few weeks so should be able to compare and report back.

Mind me asking where and how much? I'm racing on D209GP's but the Diablo SuperCorsa are very popular.
