Just had my 1st off
This evening went out for a leisurely ride after tea, and while riding along the M25 and then taking the A21 turn-off towards sevenoaks I loose it on the bend, and the bike goes out from underneath me...causing me to slide along on my left side, and then the bike decided to flip over and smack the central reservation causing the front forks to snap and the front wheel buckle.
Unfortunately I'm only TPFT, so bang goes the chance of getting money back from the insurance, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to repair the bike as long as the chassis hasn't bent. Injuries are a 1" cut knee - due to wearing normal jeans, and bit of a stiff neck at the moment. My only issue is I need to recovery the bike from a recovery agency near Clacket Lane Services - and wanted to know if I hire a transit van, what's the easiest way to get the bike in/out in order for me to get it home again. Thanks, to Kev who came and picked me up from the roadside, saving me a ride home with Kents finest constabulary. |
Re: Just had my 1st off
GSXR front end time. Railway sleepers, or scaffolding pole through the rear wheel to lift. Try to protect the wheel from marking too.
Bits can be replaced, people can't. |
Re: Just had my 1st off
I will have a pointy front end up for sale soon if thats any help to you.

Re: Just had my 1st off
Sorry to hear it mate. Hopefully lady luck won't strike bad twice. As said it's time for a gixer front end... although it sounds like a terrible impact so I'd get the frame inspected. If it's bent then it's start over time.

Thats very calmly written! You must be gutted :( You won't hurt so much until tomorrow morning :p
I think with snapped forks, the only option is to manhandle it into a van. I'm wondering how you'd support it once its in - milk crate to rest the engine on and tie down straps to keep it upright? Or drain the fluids and put it in on its side with lots of foam and blankets? |
Re: Just had my 1st off

Yeah, the adrenelin is starting to wear off and my neck is getting a little tighter now. Oh well, the things we do to get time off work. I'm hoping the frame is fine and still in tack in order for me to attempt to repair with the uprated forks, and and additional items like near side wing mirror, side stand, replacement front wheel - and anything else that shot away. Will only find out tomorrow when I ring the recovery company Reliance Recovery in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Image attached of picture I took, as the bike was on the opposite side to hard shoulder - what do you all think? |
