Removing Fork stanchion.
could anyone enlighten me to how you remove the fork stantion from the fork lowers, i cant undo the bottom bolt because it keeps turning inside, im told that you need a special tool for this, is there any other way i can do this?

Re: Removing Fork stanchion.
Get a broom pole or similar wooden rod about an inch in diameter, cut a coarse taper on the end. With fork spring removed tap into tapered recess on upper end of damper rod, hold pole with pliers or self locking grips etc, thus restraining the rod and allowing you to undo the bolt.

Re: Removing Fork stanchion.
You can try putting the spring and spacer back in, then doing up the fork top. If you have pre-load caps, do it up to max. This might apply enough friction to the damper rod to hold it while you undo the bottom bolt.
When to bolt is loosened, disassemble the forks again before removing the damper rod bolt. |

Not on an SV, but I've done it before by undoing the bolt before the springs were taken out. The pressure of the springs was enough to hold everything still while the bolt was loosened. Edit... beat me to it |
