any pharmacists on here?

the missus has been prescribed 500mg amoxicillin for a chest infection she's had for 6 weeks. We're meant to be having a big BBQ on Saturday so can she drink? She was gonna wait til after the BBQ to start taking them 3 times a day but she's started feeling really ill, can she drink whilst taking them? Internet seems 50/50 on whether it's ok to do so

Just checked the 'larder' and found that SWMBO had been on that for her chest infection. Turned her into a total space-cadet so drinking shouldn't be an issue!!! :D

Talk to your Doctor, unless you want to know about how to process holiday photos..

Unless it says otherwise, small amounts of the stuff should be ok.

No offense at all to any pharmacists, see if someone can guess the reference xD

I had the most horrific allergic reaction to Amoxo, so didn't get the chance to even think about whether or not it would be ok to drink. Most drugs like this will not do a serious amount of harm with a small amount of alcohol, but given that she has a chest infection, which can end up being a real pain if not treated quickly, I'd just say to start the course now, read the warnings and if needed, call NHS direct to be sure on 0845 46 47. I doubt one or two beers or a glass of wine will hurt, but better safe than sorry so I would say just not to drink.......you don't NEED booze to have a good time. If you do......that's something else to think about ( a general statement, not directed at your wife).
AFAIK, alcohol will reduce the effectiveness of the drug and that's not what she'll want or need if she's not well.

Hope she feels better soon though and have a nice BBQ!!!
